Adrian has been a member since 2003 and is the current representative for North, Central, and South America. Click here to view the Executive Committee (ExCo). He has participated in all ISA congresses since 2004, presenting the results of his research studies. For the past 10 years, he has been an active reviewer for the International Journal of Audiology and has served as an associate editor since 2019. He is also an associate editor for Noise and Health.
Adrian has attended all WCA since 2004 where he has presented the results of his studies. In addition, Adrian was a keynote speaker at the 2022 WCA in Poland and Chairs a plenary session at the 2024 WCA.
I studied audiology and speech pathology at the University of Chile in Santiago where I lived for more than 20 years. I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Hong Kong where I investigated the effects of organic solvents on the human auditory system with a special emphasis on the central auditory nervous system. Then, I moved to Australia where I was a postdoctoral research fellow and later an NHMRC senior research officer, at the University of Queensland. At this University, I investigated the peripheral and central auditory effects of jet fuel exposure. My research interests include the effects of co-exposure to chemicals and noise on the human auditory system, the auditory signs of solvent-induced auditory dysfunction and the early detection of hearing loss induced by chemical exposure. I am also interested in the age-related changes in the central auditory nervous system. I have collaborated with several researchers around the world in these fields of research. Currently, I am co-chair of the Environmental & Occupational Focus group of the International Ototoxicity Management Group and co-chair of the Collaborative on Ototoxicity Risk Assessment (CORA) at the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI).
I have played a significant role in connecting new audiology societies from Latin America to the International Society of Audiology (ISA) and have been a proactive advocate for advancing the field of audiology in Latin America. Notably, I developed a test battery tailored for assessing auditory processing in Spanish-speaking populations.
If elected to the board, I intend to continue my active involvement, with a particular focus on advancing the field of audiology in the Americas and especially in Latin America, where it remains underdeveloped in certain countries. Having traveled extensively throughout the Americas, I have gained a deep understanding of the strengths and challenges facing our profession across the continent. I am dedicated to representing the Americas and serving as their voice on the ISA board.
In addition, I am fluent in the major languages spoken in the Americas—Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French—as well as in Italian. This linguistic proficiency will enable me to effectively communicate and collaborate across diverse regions.
PhD, Reg CASLPO, completed Masters-level
clinical and research training, leading to her licensure in Audiology. She also
earned her PhD in Hearing Science from the University of Western University.
Dr. Glista is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences, School
of Communication Sciences & Disorders, at the University of Western
Ontario, based in London, Ontario, Canada. She serves as a primary investigator
in the National Centre for Audiology and is the Director of the Connected
Hearing Healthcare Lab.
Danielle has been an active member of the
International Society of Audiology (ISA) and a regular contributor and peer
reviewer for the International Journal of Audiology. She has also served
as a guest speaker for an ISA webinar focused on the development of a community
of practice specific to "Hearing in Later Life".
At the 2024 World Congress of Audiology, Danielle will co-facilitate a planned session on the topic of “New and Collaborative Practices in Pediatric Hearing Aid Fitting” and will be a panelist on the panned session around “Audiology and the WHO World Rehabilitation Alliance: Integrating hearing care in comprehensive inter-professional primary care”. She is also a co-author on a research poster entitled “Building the bridge for holistic hearing healthcare in Canada: empowering audiologists to appreciate their integral role in primary care”.
Danielle has made significant contributions to hearing science and healthcare, particularly in advancing the development and implementation of tele-audiology solutions. She has spearheaded numerous projects that explore the integration of digital technologies in audiology, aiming to improve accessibility and outcomes for patients. Her research has been instrumental in developing clinical tools and procedures for remote hearing aid management, for listeners across the lifespan. These efforts have led to the creation of clinical practice guidelines and innovative mHealth tools that empower both clinicians and patients in the management of hearing health.
Danielle’s work emphasizes the importance of collaborative care models and real-world assessments in hearing healthcare. She has been at the forefront of incorporating ecological momentary assessment (EMA) tools to evaluate real-world outcomes, bridging the gap between controlled clinical environments and the everyday experiences of hearing aid users. Her contributions extend to the education and training of future audiologists, with her leadership in developing curricula that focus on the role of audiologists within interprofessional primary care teams. Through her research and educational initiatives, Danielle continues to shape the future of hearing science, ensuring that advancements in technology are effectively translated into practice to benefit diverse patient populations.
I am committed to serving ISA and the member community to enhance the global understanding and management of hearing and balance disorders. If elected, I will strive to advance the field of Audiology through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. I am committed to participating in Board meetings, the WCA General Assembly, and in meetings of the World Congress of Audiology. To this role, I bring extensive leadership experience related to national and international scholarly activities and a strong foundation in clinical and research practices. I look forward to working collaboratively with fellow Board members, community members, and stakeholders and thank you for considering my nomination. I am excited about the possibility of serving as a Board member and to making a positive difference within the ISA and the field of Audiology.
